In Jackson New Hampshire
I learned to ski
And nothing felt harder than the ice

In the mornings we'd pack
Our bags so we'd never leave
The mountain and all its paths

Heavy on the rain
Maybe it was signaling some change

The next year we didn't go back to Jackson
Because the house was no longer ours to use

So we heard the tales of Tuckerman Ravine
And how my uncle named his newborn kid after the slope

And maybe all was fine
And maybe we'd return to our routine

And family gathering brought us closer together
Jackson hadn't been spoken in years

Until my uncle introduced us to a member of our own family

A little pup that rode the roads
From Alabama north to New Hampshire
And I didn't know how much he'd mean to us

Hell I was still a kid

But even then
I knew there'd be a time
When he would live another life outside our own

And Jackson the dog
The spirit now that walks above us all
He always seemed to help forget
